History of Art
Michaela Rife works in the intersections of art history and the environmental humanities. Her first book project considers the role of New Deal murals in Dust Bowl communities as a way to understand how artists contend with environmental “disaster” by reinforcing (or resisting) settler colonial narratives. More broadly, she is interested in the visual culture of resource extraction. Rife earned her PhD from the University of Toronto in 2020.
