My name is Merel van ‘t Hoff and I did my PhD in astrochemistry at Leiden University in Leiden, The Netherlands, advised by Ewine van Dishoeck and John Tobin. I study the material around young stars from which planets eventually form. The chemical composition of these planetary building blocks provides important clues to how planetary systems like our own Solar System form, and to the origin of life.
