Sociology
My research broadly focuses on how culture and politics intersect in economic life. In practice, this means I investigate how financial technologies, shared understandings, and new ideas about morality develop in the marketplace. My work also addresses the peculiar roles that federal budget politics and credit programs have played in U.S. economic and political life, especially during the postwar era. I explore these areas through an ongoing research project that considers how the long history of U.S. housing and credit policy contributed to the rise of the market for mortgage-backed securities. I received a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2010.
