Appointment: 2017-2020
Urban Planning

James Macmillen
James Macmillen trained in urban planning and anthropology at Cornell University. He studies how planning professionals relate to time in their work: how they create urban futures, and how their own hopes and expectations influence their craft. His ethnographic research focuses on Detroit, exploring how the city’s planners engage with the future and the past in a context of profound loss and change.
